Collapse, 2018

Without digital manipulation, the exterior and interior of a vacant commercial space are visually collapsed. The city intersection is reflected in the pictured window and is also visible through the store’s security roll gate. This intersection is flanked by strip malls in South Philadelphia, an urban area undergoing gentrification. The landscape of the city is visually confused due to the reflection and layering of the large glass windows of the corner space. This visual effect exists within and alongside the neighborhood’s rapid economic shift, marked by high turnover rates in commercial renters.
