Multiple videos depict movement throughout various big-box retailers. A wall text wrapped around the room inches off the floor can only be read in its mirror reflection, an initial point of disorientation. The act of reading the text draws a viewer around the perimeter of the room. The sites filmed are the material sources for the installation: inexpensive utilitarian materials and household objects including store-bought mirrors, duct tape, and foam packaging endemic to a consumer culture under late capitalism. The materials and sourcing venues speak to an ethos of self reliance and stopgap solutions particular to mass-produced temporary DIY household tools and objects. The videos emphasize the disorienting effects of big-box stores, a visual materialization of larger destabilizing economic forces.
